Cookies and similar storage on Rivoatlas

For readers in Ireland, 18+Two essential values in your browser, a possible Cloudflare security cookie, and Google Analytics 4 or Google Ads only after you allow them. “Decline all” is as easy as “Allow all”.
What cookies and storage are
A cookie is a small text file a site saves in your browser and reads back on later visits. Local storage keeps similar information on your device but is not sent to the server with each request. Tags and pixels are pieces of code that can set or read either of them.
Irish law treats all of these the same way. Under Regulation 5 of S.I. No. 336 of 2011, storing or reading information on your device needs your consent, unless it is strictly necessary for a service you asked for. This policy lists everything rivoatlas.com stores, sorted into the three categories used in our banner: Essential, Measurement and Advertising.

Essential storage
Two values are written to local storage on rivoatlas.com and never leave your device:
rv_age_okrecords the moment you confirmed you are 18 or over. If there is no value, or it is older than 30 days, the 18+ question is shown again.rv_consentrecords your Measurement and Advertising choices and when you made them. Without it the banner would appear on every page.
The site runs behind Cloudflare for security. If Cloudflare’s bot protection is switched on, it may set the short-lived __cf_bm cookie. These items are exempt from consent because they are strictly necessary, but we still list them.

Lifetimes for Google cookies are Google’s defaults and refresh when you return. Nothing in the Measurement or Advertising rows is set before you allow that category.
When you follow a link to a bookmaker, its own cookies apply, including any that record that you arrived from the atlas. Those are covered by the bookmaker’s cookie policy, not this one.
Google Consent Mode
Every page starts Google Consent Mode v2 in the “denied” state for analytics storage, ad storage, ad user data and ad personalisation. We use the basic set-up: while the state is “denied”, the Google tag and Google Tag Manager are not loaded, so Google receives nothing from the page, not even cookieless signals.

The banner’s first layer shows “Decline all” and “Allow all” as buttons of the same size and style. “Choose categories” opens Measurement and Advertising unticked. Scrolling or reading on is never treated as consent, and this page and our Privacy notice can be read without allowing anything. If JavaScript is switched off, no banner appears and nothing optional runs.
How long choices last
Your choice is kept for 182 days. After that the banner asks again, in line with the Data Protection Commission’s guidance note on cookies, which says consent should be reaffirmed no later than six months after it was stored.
The age confirmation is asked again after 30 days. Clearing your browser’s site data for rivoatlas.com removes both values at once, so both questions return on your next visit.
Changing your choice
Open Cookie settings at any time; the same link is at the foot of every page. Withdrawing consent takes the same single click as giving it (GDPR Art. 7(3)).
If you switch both Measurement and Advertising off after allowing them, Consent Mode returns to “denied” and the _ga, _gid, _gat and _gcl cookies on our domain are deleted. If you switch off only one category, the signals for that category return to “denied”; to remove its cookies straight away, decline both or clear site data in your browser.
Browser settings also let you block or delete cookies. Blocking Essential storage means the 18+ question and the banner appear on every page.
